Guo Da Li

Last Sunday finally is the day to do Guo Da Li. What a stessful day cos got to bring over all the gifts and the "Bride's Price" early in the morning. I have to order 30 boxes of traditional cakes and 4 boxes of traditional teochew snacks and of course the " 4 Pieces of gold", 2 bottles of V.S.O.P 8 oranges with little "Xi" Stickers on it. Also a very important "Ping Jing" The amount is a secret cos that is what Karen is worth to my parents....later too low she will kill me..


When I was waiting below for Karen to get ready, my auntie wanted to come along to be like the Mei Por. While carrying the boxes, I was asking my auntie hoping since she is helping me maybe she can give me some tips. So I asked "Hmmmm so when I give the gifts what do i say ah?" " Gong Xi Fa Cai can?" Of course, I know I was joking. But my auntie said " Also can" I was like:"............"

Anyway I decided to shut my mouth when I open the door and just smile and shout "Guo Da Li!!" Well apparently it worked. Anyway inside as I begin to reveal the luxurious gifts, and Karen's parents being simple appreciated it. So we exchanged the oranges and in return she passed me a red plate with various small items in it with various powers...I am suppose to place it on my wedding bed for 3 days and 3 nights... also she passed me a silk pyjamas and a red pair of shoe to wear the night before my big day. OMG!! This suit reminded me of the Husband of the "Landlordess" in Kung fu Hustle....Look like right!! Oh and my favourite gift is this humongous red packet and Karen's mother said: "This is Bao luo WAN You" ang bao, for me to buy land lah etc etc"



So after the gift exchange, both parents went into the room and check how much is the "Bride price" After 5 intense minutes, the parents came out and gave me back the remainder of the "bride price to bring back." I gave it all to my auntie to bring back for me and Karen's father gave her an ang bao. Wah so good ah!!

After which, I joined Karen's parents to start sending out the cakes to all the relatives. First we started with her relatives staying near her. Thank God all her relatives just live at the same block same section. So we cleared 18 boxes in just 20 mins. So left 12 more to go.... However this 12 will take us almost 6 hours..


We first went to a temple to give to her " dead grandparents and auntie" When I reached the temple, the parents went into the "Attributes" of the temple to buy joss paper. Inside I found rolex and many other valuables for cheap price. The great singapore items are as follow:
